Legendary Cream drummer GINGER BAKER - as previously reported hospitalized in late September after his family said he was "critically il" - has passed away at 80. Yesterday, Baker's Facebook Page stated: "We are very sad to say that Ginger has passed away peacefully this morning. Thank you to everyone for your kind words to us all over the past weeks." According to The Guardian, Baker was born in 1939 in Lewisham, south London, and grew up amid the blitz; his father was killed in action in 1943. He began drumming in his mid-teens, remembering in 2009: "I'd never sat behind a kit before, but I sat down - and I could play! One of the musicians turned round and said, 'Bloody hell, we've got a drummer', and I thought, 'Bloody hell, I'm a drummer!'" Despite considerable friction between Baker and singer/bassist Jack Bruce, the pair in 1966 formed Cream with Eric Clapton, who had previously played with the Yardbirds and John Mayall. Cream were arguably the first supergroup and a precursor to heavy metal. The band split in 1968 after releasing four groundbreaking records: Fresh Cream (1966), Disraeli Gears (1967), Wheels of Fire (1968) and Goodbye (1969). It was actually yesterday (October 5th) in 1968, that Cream began their long farewell tour.

Like few other contemporary metal bands, longtime HardRadio friends PRONG are synonymous with a down-to-earth attitude, stamina and a close bond with their fans. "Since the beginning of our career, we've done almost everything ourselves," guitarist, vocalist and band founder Tommy Victor looks back at the group's intense and extremely strenuous early phase in the 1980s. "Not only did we write songs and record albums, we also managed the band, looked after the merchandise, sent demos to clubs and booked vans. Then there were a few years with record companies and agencies involved to support us. Today we're back to the beginning, we've come full circle." The latest feat proves Prong's great commitment: A new EP, available on Digi-CD and 12" vinyl, featuring two brand-new studio recordings and three live cuts, will be out on Steamhammer/SPV from November 29. The EP's title is Age Of Defiance.
