Alex Van Halen is a buttock. All idiot does is bang on his snare drum like a chimp. Listen closely to all Van Halen albums after the debut, and you will hear the snare too high in the mix, as Alex masturbates away in a chimp-like fury. Look, Alex, any chimp/idiot can bang out a 4/4 beat, complete with masturbatory snare drum. Go listen to some Bill Ward or Keith Moon for information about an amazing invention you have never heard of called "tom toms," and "runs across the drum set."

AVH is the only drummer on earth whose playing I can actually recognize, because of that snare sound.

yeah he has a very unique sound!!
if you want to talk about the chimp playing the drums listen to Lars on St.anger I think the toy monkey I have playing the drums sounds better than any song he plays on the whole CD

My point is that there is a difference between technique and musicianship. Which is why I slag death bands with competant musicians in them, because the music is unlistenable. It is also why I slag Alex Van Halen. Dude can beat out a 4/4 beat while he rides his cymbals like a chimp, no question. What he can never do is be a musician at anything like the Moon/Ward level. Keith Moon and Bill Ward know how to contribute to a song with their entire drum kits. An ability that the likes of Alex Van Halen has no clue even exists.

I just saw VH in Phoneix a few weeks back and I thought Alex's drum solo was one of the best I've heard. The only one better I can think of that I've seen personally is Neil Peart. I too thought Alex was a so-so drummer, but his performance in Phoenix really changed my opinion.
