So I saw the movie on Friday, and I have to say it was great!
Very interesting film with a LOT of comedy, both intentional and unintentional.
Some random thoughts:
Almost EVERY time they played old Metallica clips, the song was Seek And Destroy.
James Hetfield REALLY likes grapes.
Lars Ulrich REALLY likes the F-bomb.
Jason Newsted REALLY hates his ex-bandmates.
Kirk Hammett could be having sex with two supermodels in a sports car during the Super Bowl and still come off looking kinda gay.
Robert Trujillo is an excellent bass player and seems like a great guy.
Dave Mustaine doesn't come across THAT bad, although I was kinda stunned to hear him call Megadeth a "complete failure".
I'd recommend this movie to anyone, whether they're music fans or not.
It's a nice snapshot of a very tenuous time in the life of Metallica, and I'm a little surprised that the guys let some of the footage be shown. |

Is anybody really surprised by this? In every interview I've ever read or seen with him he always comes across as an obnoxious, potty-mouthed little twit. |

It still amazes me that this band still get so much undeserved attention. Metallica will never get another penny from me again. |

An interesting quote from Roger Ebert I noticed in his review for the movie (I think this was singled out by Blabbermouth too) - keep in mind that this guy knows nothing about metal and only about as much about Metallica as he saw in this movie:
The band eventually finishes the album ("St. Anger"). The movie opens with the press junket promoting it, at which they repeat conventional sound bites which the movie shows bear little correspondence with reality. If "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster" has a message, it's great being a rock god up to a point, but most rock gods play the role long after it's much fun. Some people sing and tour forever (Willie Nelson, the Stones, McCartney). What Dr. Phil should probably advise Metallica is to call it a day. Why work with people you can't stand, doing work you're sick of, and that may be killing you? Lots of people have jobs like that, but Metallica has a choice.
Still looks like a renter though. I still haven't heard St. Anger and I'm still not that curious. |

Maybe Dr. Phil could also give the same advice to Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. |
