I just saw Yngwie in Norfolk a couple of days ago on his "Unleash the F*cking Fury" tour and, to put it mildly, no one touches the Maestro. He warmed up his fingers for about 45 seconds before lighting into Rising Force and I have never heard such speed and clarity from anyone, including concert violinists. Speaking of such, it is clearly evident that Yngwie is our modern day Paganini. He's also the only guitarist who can claim such a title.

At about 60 lbs. lighter than he has been recently, he looks and plays like he's on his Live 85 tour. Only a dolt would miss the opportunity to see Yngwie on this tour. For almost 25 years now, he is the undisputed King of virtuoso shred.

While Yngwie is unquestionably a master at his craft, does playing scales at 100 miles per hour make him the 'best'? Dexterity & precision are key factors, but so is melody and the ability to resist making something more complicated than it needs to be.

Jayhawk, check out Malmsteen for sure, but I'd also recommend checking out the following:

[list]
Greg Howe (his version of Rush's La Villa Strangiato is incredible)
Andy Timmons
Gary Hoey
Michael Angelo Batio

TODAY?
and this is HARD RADIO, so HARD? HEAVY music?
Greg Howe? I know he is great, seen him several times, but hardly new or todays fresh....
Michael Angelo...(bashing Malmsteen for fast scales and then mentioning Angelo is just not right....he is an acrobat of the guitar, I would not consider him in the same category, more like a novelty act)
