This was just received from Tawn's sister Cara. More info at http://tawnmastreybenefit.com

--

The family spent the day surrounding Tawn. Our 3
sisters, brother in laws, mother and friend, were with
her all day. I had to hang up on being on hold
forever for the Howard Stern show, (which was torture
listening to the nonsense conversations while my
sister lay dying). Tawn hated talk radio.

We had to make a decision to take Tawn off life
support system today because Tawn is no longer a
candidate for a liver transplant. Her heart is not
strong enough to take an operation says the doctors.
They say she will pass naturally. She could pass
away in a matter of hours, or days. She is heavily
sedated. I asked her if she was in pain to squint her
eyes. She opened her eyes wide for a second, so I
asked the nurse for more medication. Tawn is too weak
to open her eyes, but she makes occasional sounds.
She looks comatose.

I feel sick to my stomach because, how do the Dr's
know for sure her heart can't take the operation if
she can live for days without life support. ???????
I'm continuing to get other opinions and asking
multitude of questions. However, there is nothing
anyone can do if they refuse to operate and she is no
longer on the list, except to allow her to die
peacefully.

We all told Tawn that we love her and that the world
loves her. She brings light to everyone she meets.
She is the best sister and friend anyone could have.
We told eachother childhood stories about Tawn, and
the good times we all have when we're with her.

My family is at peace with the decision to let her go,
but I feel I still have to do everything I can to feel
peace in my heart, and still be humane enough to let
her go. We promised that if she didn't receive a
liver, we would NOT keep her alive. That was strict
orders from Tawn and in her will.

I'm so sorry.
I feel I've let her down, as well as letting you all
down. But I do know that I have done all that I can
do on this planet, to try to save my beautiful sister.

Family is taking shifts to sit with her until she
passes.
As we've shared Tawn with the world, my mother and
sisters now ask to be with her alone at this time,
except for a few very close friends.

Peace
Cara

Tawn Mastrey passed away last night in Minneapolis at the age of 53. We extend our condolences to her family and friends.

Tawn was an early staff hostess here at HardRadio, her only foray into internet radio. Beginning in 1996, she hosted the "Leather Nun" show along with Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry's ex-wife, Elyssa.

I was really sorry to hear this. I had been going to site on and off since I saw the banner on this site quite a few weeks ago. Just want to say sorry to the family. I didn't know her personally but she sure was beautiful. And obviously well loved and respected by so many. It's nice to know her memory will be kept and shared by so many.
