Hi, guys. I just opened this topic to say that I?m listening to Fugazi, an album from Marillion, created on 1984 and this has opened a whole new universe for me musically speaking and also in terms of lyrics.
I think that my music taste is moving towards progressive rock because every part on a song is embellished and reproduced in a "long way" every parts last a good mount of time and the songs are not repetitive.
Although, I'm not a progressive rock fan or a specialist on it, not at all, actually.
I just want to know if you guys have any opinion about Marillion, specially this album. Or prog music, genesis (i ve never heard a complete album from them, and i think they are like the beatles of prog music) and that stuff, maybe? or that you know some band that is a must to listen, or something from 2008 that we have to listen, etc.
Any comment will be appreciated.
See you around, fellas.

Hey Jorge, I bought Fugazi when it came out back in 1984 and became a huge fan of theirs until Fish left, and my taste in music went from progressive rock to speed metal/progressive metal.
You have to get the whole trilogy (their first three albums) to put the whole thing together.
Really, thanks for bringing up this blast from my past. I haven't listened to Script for a Jester's Tear, Fugazi and Misplaced Childhood in over a decade. Guess I'll need to dust off the old turn-table to listen to the vinyl |

Oh, thanks Swidman for those kind words!
I will try to listen the trilogy.
And yes! I also think that you need to dust it off.
Thank you and see you around!! |

Jorge, it's so awesome to hear of new fans of Marillion. They are so creative and original. I've been listening to them since the release of their finest album 'Script For A Jester's Tear' just prior to their album 'Fugazi'. BTW, I also love Fugazi. I had the pleasure of seeing the original lineup with principal lyricist and original vocalist 'Fish' on tour in the mid-eighties in Toronto. This band has so much energy and extremely loyal fans. It was a great loss when Fish left the band, but the replacement Steve Hogarth was a good fit. He also has an excellent voice and stage presence. Marillion's lyrics are truly poetic and abstract. Listening to their earlier music is like enjoying Shakespeare or Picasso set to progressive rock.
BTW I seem to recall you're quite the Glenn Hughes fan, what do you think of his latest release? I must admit I'm having a hard time to connect with it. Although I also love most of his albums.
Cheers. |

I've never heard Fugazi (except for the punk band, which of course doesn't count), but Script For A Jester's Tear is a great disc. May I make a few more recommendations:
KING CRIMSON - In The Court Of The Crimson King, Red (two completely different lineups, with the exception of guitar beast Robert Fripp, and two completely different musical styles on each disc, but both styles and lineups are great)
GENESIS - Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Wind And Wuthering
YES - Tales Of Topographic Oceans, Going For The One, Tormato
MIKE OLDFIELD - Tubular Bells |

THanks The Coop, (and teh Dorf) for your comments!
About HUghes I'ven't heard the new FUNK album. I just saw the single on Youtube. and i think it's allright.
To be honest, I'm still listening to the last album "Music for the divine" although I'm listening a few of tr5acks. I'm not much into"MOnkey Man" style. I prefe "this house " or "This is how I feel " i enjoyed the course he took since he discover his higher pwer and the religionist emblem he is carrying. Perhpas that's my way to connect with him.
As I said, I haven't llistened to the record I just saw the http://youtube.com/watch?v=qkDHQp0C6lw love communion video.
I like the grrove, and the whole feeling about armony that sorrounds it.
I was thinkiing in opening a topic about his new album but since I opened this one, I thought it was a litle rushed, since I haven't even listened to the album. So, thanks for bringing the topic up, bro!
PS.- Here's an interview about the record (and little on deep purple of course as usual http://youtube.com/watch?v=tMC_-LkVeQY) |
