After recording their debut album in 1984 this band never saw it released. It sat on the shelf - until now. The album is finally being released on October 6th.
ASSASSIN was San Diego's best Metal band in the mid 80's, with a fanbase of several thousand (and not just in San Diego - they had fans in L.A. and Orange County, and still have fans in Europe and Japan). They actually had some album deals offered, but their manager convinced them to hold out for the BIG deal. Bad advice. The singer ended up leaving the band after getting tired of waiting for said big deal, and the new singer didn't work out so the band broke up.
But before all that happened they actually recorded their debut album - in 1984 - with the support of former San Diego Padres pitcher (and big music fan) the late Eric Show and 101.5 KGB D.J. Pat Martin. For an independent recording in 1984 it actually sounded really good. Almost major label good.
Sadly, the album was never released. Well, not until now, anyway. The guy running independent record company Deep Shag records was actually the guy who ran ASSASSIN's fan club, ran lights for them, and did a number of other tasks as well. His goal for the last 8 or so years has been to release this album - but first they had to find all the tapes to master the CD! Finding everything and restoring it took some time. They actually had to bake the tapes for the live bonus tracks because the tape was decomposing! They had one pass through the machine to make a copy - and they were sucessful. (The original tape is now unplayable.)
These guys were really, really good and had over 20 strong songs. This album comes from relatively early in their career, but shows just how good they were becoming as it has several very good songs, and a couple absolutely great ones. Actually, this album is loaded if you count the live bonus tracks! It's just a shame that they never recorded those songs in the studio.
Anyway - here is the link to the official promo video that I produced and edited for Deep Shag Records:
