Non-metal subject:

Did anyone get the E-mail with the subject ILOVEYOU containing a VB Script virus?

Well, don't open that mail and certainly don't open the attachement!!!

I have to admit that I (kicking myself) opened the attachement, which, among other things, automatically sent the same message to all the contacts in my address book... Well, a lot of them, until I shut the program down.

It's nice to know that I've sent a message with the subject ILOVEYOU (in one word) to a lot of my business associates....

Weird - my friend just told me about this one. She got it on her computer at work. It's a nasty one.

P.S. I love you too!

Yeah, we got it here at quite a few places on the west coast...supposedly it originated in the philippines. I'm at a company that has as it's main product - a suite of Java applications. You know, with all of these engineers around here, you'd think that they would have enough sense not to execute a .vbs file.
If you want to check the virus out without executing it (to see what the code looks like), just save it to your hard disk (this does not execute it), change the extension to .txt (this ensures that it will not be seen as a visual basic script file), and open it in notepad or some other text viewer.

I AM a software engineer and I was not smart enough not to open the damn thing... It came from a buddy of mine I thought I could trust...

Actually, I looked through the code of the script (the HTML version of it in the system directory) and was able to fix whatever damage the "virus" had done. But I can't do much about the E-mails that were sent... Bugger!

My firm got nailed with this virus today. Had our e-mail server shut down for most of the morning.

We had a few get it here, but fortunately we do not run Outlook so that limits the risk somewhat.

Always a good bet not to open funky attachments.
