Raider: Yeah, Days of Purgatory was the first release I'd heard. I thought it was okay...that's about all. But my friend kept trying to push The Dark Saga on me. I thought it wouldn't be anything special...man, I'm glad I was wrong. In the space of six months I've become a *major* fan of this band.
Exciter: Yeah, you may be right. I mean, a song like "Don't Cry, Just Suck" .... I mean, that may have been cool when I was fourteen and had never experienced that particular pleasure up to that point, but now, after watching this band and myself mature quite a bit, well, the title of the song sounds...juvenile. Maybe that's why I just can't get into this album...it seems like they've taken a step backward.
Now...somebody kick my ass, because I'm a hypocryte. I've often, OFTEN complained about bands needing to get back to their roots.
I guess I just don't know what I want...:-)

this week trip to the store netted the following:
Testament - The Gathering - Pretty decent, if you can get past the vocals, has some very good moments. new
Scorpions - animal Magnetism - Nice to hear this again, been a while. Such a great album. Klaus is just awesome on this one. new
Overkill - from 1989, title escapes me but good thrash, always liked this band and singer. Now if i can only find Feel the Fire on cd in the used bin I will be a happy camper.
Megadeth - So Far So Good So What good vintage Megadeth..used |

Heather:
Quick warning. I would recommend staying away from "Days of Purgatory." I loved "Something Wicked..." but didn't much care for "...Purgatory." It's mainly from their very early material. Some people think that their early material is their best, but if you really liked "Something Wicked..." then you'll probably think more along the lines I do, which is that they've greatly improved. I think "Burnt Offerings" and "Dark Saga" are supposed to be closer to their current style.
As for recent CDs purchased:
Children of Bodom--Hatebreeder
Nocturnal Rites--The Sacred Talisman
Lefay--Seventh Seal.
I've got some serious variety here, from the death/black combo style of COB, to the trad. metal style of NR, to whatever the hell you call Lefay's style. This should keep me entertained for a while. |
