Not to resurect a very beaten down topic but I just wanted to say that I am going to the Sno-Core show tomorrow night. This tour as you know features what many consider "MALL METAL" bands including Fear Factory, Kittie and others. I know I'll probably take a beating from the hardboard faithful but that's OK. out of the 5 bands, I am really just going to see Kittie. Something about 17 year old chicks playing death/ speed metal gets me excited. I'm not the biggest fan of acid gargling cookie monster vocals but these chicks have me mesmorized at the moment. Yes, I know I'm over 30 with serious 80's metal roots but this is all I have for shows this month.
Wish me luck.
Go ahead now let me have it now.

Kittie, death/speed metal? I don't think so. Anyways, I think it's cool that you aren't afraid to let people know what you are into. And I can't think of some better way to end this reply.

Seriously Icarus, it took a lot of guts to make that post in front of this group. I for one will not flame you, although I do admit I am chuckling a bit at the fact that you are going to see a band with 17 year old girls in it. ("Kittie"...LOL!) Just don't get carried away with the mall metal or we will have to do an intervention of some kind for your own good. |

No one should've needed an excuse to see Drain live; they were a good band and probably would've put on a fun show. They were basically everything good about Alice In Chains with everything that sucked about them removed (well, maybe Jerry's a better guitar player but Drain's was pretty good). Well, except for the short band lifespan, that unfortunately was kept.
As for Kittie, I've only heard a couple of songs from them and I'm admittedly a little perplexed by the appeal; sounded like nu-metal meets sort of a lite grindcore - not my bag, and since I can't tell the good bands from the bad ones when it comes to this sort of thing, I'll just leave my estimation of them at that. At any rate, it's not the kind of sound I'd expect to get a lot of listeners, but there ya have it. It's a nasty, nasty suspicion to think that nobody'd ever have noticed Kittie if they weren't girls, but it's probably on the money. Hope that doesn't make me a pig - the number of women on this board who seem to know what they're talking about regarding metal is pleasing me to no end and I'd hate to disendear (?) myself to them so soon. Actually, Subtraction I don't know anything about Kitty except for one song that I heard that was very Cookie monster sounding and speedish and I could not desipher the vocals. Honestly, I wouldn't know what to "label" them. I was under the impression that it was fairly heavy S#@t from the one song I heard.
If I was mistaken and am in for a rap-core/ bounce fest deal, someone please let me know! I may have a chance to bail.
I did see Drain before they broke up and they did put on a sick show. Believe me I'd much rather be seeing Nevermore or Helloween tonight, but seeing how either will most likely never happen here in the Boston/ Providence area, this is the heavy fix for the month.
Not even Yngwie is coming here!

Disappearing after three albums and two EP's due to drug problems sucks. (and so did Jerry's solo album...I have more hope for the post-Drain projects) |

Ok, not putting out material and the drug problems sucked, but the drug probs. were also probably the inspiration for half of their songs too. Jerrys solo album rocked IMO. |
