Depp in the Sabbath Revisited thread got me thinking on this one.
iron maiden's cover of Communication Breakdown by Led Zeppelin too is as good as the original if not better.
You guys know of any more such candidates ? |

Nevermore's cover of Priest 'love bites' and the Simon and gar-funky 'sound of silence' are both better.

Pretty much any cover by Nevermore or Type O Negative.
Testament's "Nobody's Fault", an Aerosmith cover.
Metallica's "Astronomy" (Blue Oyster Cult...BOC rules, but Metallica's version rules more) and "Whiskey In The Jar" (a cover of a cover). Easily the two most "right" things they've done in the last ten years.

I too like Type-O's version of Summer Breeze, and Cinnamon Girl, but I really really do NOT like their version of Light My Fire.
Baker Street by The Foo Fighters is pretty good. |

I know of two covers that are better than the originals.
1. Tyson Dog's cover of School's Out, as it steamrolls all over the original in all aspects.
2. Trouble's cover of Tales Of Brave Ulysses. I'm not saying I dislike Cream's original, but Trouble's version is simply better.
3. Metallica's cover of Breadfan. It's rawer, faster, and above all, it hasn't got the annoying element of the original, meaning Burke Shelley's Mickey Mouse-like voice.
With the above mentioned, I must disagree with some of the choices. I can't in my wildest dreams imagine that any cover (or anything else for that matter) made by In Flames could surpass the original, and especially not such a masterpiece as Maiden's Murder In The Rue Morgue. As much as I like Abattoir, and without having heard their Ace Of Spades cover, I still can't believe that the mighty original done by Motörhead could be done any better by any other band. (Same argument goes for Iron Fist.) I can agree that Maiden's cover of Communication Breakdown is a bit more rocking, but other than that it isn't that much better than Zep's original. And Bruce Bruce's singing doesn't really do it justice. |

I noticed nobody has included Priest's version of "Johnny B. Good." |
