Into Eternity. Looks like they've been snapped up by Century Media, so the second album oughtta be really easy to get a hold of very soon.

(and after hearing one track off the newest knuckletracks, I'm a little confused - there are more keyboards on this track than on the one one the album I have!!!)

I would also recommend Pain of Salvation. Just as heavy as DT, and their CDs are all concepts. You might also check out the debut CD by Zero Hour entitled "Towers of Avarice." The other disc, that many Opeth fans seem to be into these days is by Green Carnation entitled "Light of Day, Day of Darkness." The CD is not only a concept album, but it consists of one sixty minute song.

I would also recommend Pain of Salvation, plus Evergrey, Sentenced, Saviour Machine, Wolverine, Power of Omens, and Gardenian. Just a few that fill those cross-over shoes and are still heavy as bricks...

Yeah... I'd agree with Falcon, Evergrey is a must own. Either their latest "In Search of Truth" or their previous disc "Solitude, Dominance, Tragedy".

Well, I'd like to think you've already heard Queensryche's "Rage For Order" and " The Warning." However, if you haven't, they're just as heavy as Dream Theater. Opeth is much heavier, though. Of course, Geoff Tate's vocals are well known in the metal world. Keyboards, metal-guitars, and wide-ranged vocals (no dry-lung vox) are included in both of these releases. But, I'm sure you already know this.
I also enjoy alot of Tiamat. Their first couple albums tend to concentrate on the darker and heavier side of early black metal (keyboards and dry-lung vox included.) My favorite from this era is "The Astral Sleep." If you fancy Bathory or Sodom, this album shouldn't dissapoint you. Tiamat, however, made a dramatic turn-around in their sound starting with albums such as "A Deeper Kind Of Slumber" and "Skeleton Skeletron." If you can imagine Black Metal meets Pink Floyd w/ bouts of Alternative, then these two would be awfully close to that sound. Pretty much, these two albums aren't even Metal. But, they do have a unique sound that stand out from most other bands. Their ability to put out dramatically different sounds, and be good at each, from their early to current stages has impressed me most.
Tiamat may not be what YOU are looking for. But, if you are interested in expanding musical tastes, try "Astral Sleep" and "Deeper Kind Of Slumber." It's amazing that it's actually the same band. Well, sort of... same vocalist. hehe.
If nothing else, get Queensryche albums mentioned above. As I said, they are great (can't go wrong) with those.
