Club Ninja definitely has an 80's feel, it is more AOR oriented, but still heavy, great sound in fact! I actually really dig this album, the first few tracks on it are great:
White Flags
Dancin In The Ruins
Perfect Water
Spy In The House Of The Night
I personally prefer the first six albums, until and including Agents Of Fortune. The first great album after that was Cultusaurus Erectus (1980), then Fire Of Unknow Origin (1981), Club Ninja (1986) and the brilliant Imaginos (1988). Imaginos isn't really considered a "real" BOC album, but it's still incredibly good. |

I doubt it. Admittedly I've only heard BOC's greatest hits, but I've never heard a BOC song that rocked anywhere near as hard as "Paranoid" or "Time Machine." If BOC ever released a true headbanging album I must have missed it. |

Obviously, all their lyrics weren't clever, but a lot of them were.
BOC have never really released a "headbanging" album. Sure, there are a few "headbanging" tracks, like Cities On Flame, but most of the music is not typical metal. |

BOC never had any consistently, through-and-through heavy records, and certainly, all their lyrics weren't clever (lyrically, "Godzilla" is about as representative of them as a whole as "Don't Fear The Reaper" is musically), but I feel they avoided a lot of Sabbath's mistakes (drawn-out bluesy jamming, the occasional towering mountain of cheese, going down the toilet for more than one album).
IMO, definitely a band that more acts today need to draw inspiration from. |
