I once played Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow for my parents and they liked it. They are not metal people at all, so that took me by surprise. |

You know,I've often played metal when my parents were around just to see if they'd like it. Recently I was blasting the new MSG cd,and my dad said he thought it was pretty good.He was surprised to find out that Michael Schenker is German.
My dad was in his mid-twenties when the heavy metal movement began and enjoyed Black Sabbath,Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin at the time. It's funny because usually when he hears metal,he usually thinks the bands either sound like Sabbath or Zeppelin and that their guitarists are trying to ape Hendrix(dad worships Hendrix). Mom can kind of take or leave music.Sometimes I'll catch her humming and tapping her feet when I'm playing metal in her vicinity. By the way,she likes Creed and always asks me why I don't like them. My sister used to like metal(mostly the hair bands), but has strayed from the path so to speak.Sometimes I'll try to play heavy stuff when she's around in an attempt to rekindle her interest, but she never seems to want anything to do with it.I'm always reminded of the time we got into an argument and she called me a "poseur" and a wanna-be metalhead. That always makes me laugh, especially now that she doesn't listen to metal anymore. |

Sounds like your father is pretty cool iwarrior - it's interesting that people of a certain age that can tolerate, or even like some metal, usually have an affinity for Hendrix - who was pretty heavy for his day. |

I've been in to Metal for so long, never understood how anyone could not like it. I play it all the time, at work, in the car, at home. It's the only rule I have, if I'm around it's Metal, Metal, Metal!! I just got back from my latest road trip seeing Jag Panzer, In Flames & Iced Earth!!! And got to spend the most incredible 15 min. of my life with Jon Schaffer! |

Black Sabbath - "Heaven And Hell" (what is good)
Motorhead - "Ace Of Spades" (what is raw)
SOD - "Speak English Or Die" (what is mean)
Cannibal Corpse - "Tomb Of The Mutilated" (what is crude)
Iron Maiden - "Piece Of Mind" (what is class)
Judas Priest - "Painkiller" (what is passion)
etc.
