There are tons of metal songs about war, and many of them are general enough to apply to a soldier's experience in just about any war within the last century. But some have clues in the lyrics that pin them down to a specific war, or maybe the artist has said it is.

WWI:
Saxon - Machine Gun
Motorhead - 1916

WWII:
Iron Maiden - Aces High
Blue Oyster Cult - ME 262
Angel Dust - Enlighten The Darkness CD
Raven - Run Silent Run Deep (mentions the North Atlantic)

Any good ones to put on while playing computer sims of WWII?

Iron Maiden Tailgunner

I always thought Maiden's Afraid to kill Strangers gave a WWII feel even though they say it's about the gulf war.

Oh yeah what about Motorhead's Bomber.

"...a desert sand mound, a burial ground."

Nope, it's definitely about the Gulf War.

Could still be WWII...there was a lot of fighting in North Africa. I agree that it's probably about the Gulf War though.

How about "For Whom the Bell Tolls"? I always thought that was about war, am I missing it? "For a hill men would kill, why they do not know..." etc.

"Take to the Sky" - Jag Panzer

Die With Your Boots On - 'Maiden

...and I can't believe no one has mentioned the most obvious Iron Maiden war song....The Trooper. That wouldn't be WWI or II though, as I don't think "muskets' were used still even in WWI.

That song takes place during the Crimean War.

Indeed, it was the Crimean War.

Cannon to right of them, cannon to left of them...
