It's been awhile since I've posted a dumb question for the Mighty Hardboard so...

I've heard the term "blast beats" mentioned in several music reviews. What are blast beats?

I have the new Lamb of God CD(an excellent CD by the way) which is purported to contain blast beats. If they are what I think they are, then they're used only sometimes on this CD, and I think too much would be a bad thing.

Do you like blast beats?

I'll let someone else answer that question cause I don't want to explain it improperly and look stupid.

Really fast beats in extreme metal. Usually all you can hear is the snare going a thousand miles and hour. Think Nile. Is sounds pretty chaotic to me most of the time.

Blast beats are basically when one hand and one leg are going BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM as fast as they can.

I like them...in moderation.

God, and for the longest time I thought blast beats were double bass. For shame. Anything I can download to hear a prime example of good blast beat use?

I remember reading somewhere that the definition of a blast beat is alternating kick/snare at over 200 bpm....
