I saw a bumper sticker with this quote the other day and it made me laugh my ass off so I thought I'd share it with you. |

That's pretty funny....it's funny because it's true.
And because rap sucks. |

Just out of curiousity,I lurked on some hip-hop message boards. I'm not interested in that kind of music AT ALL,but I was just curious to see what people who are into that stuff talk about. I went mostly in the "general discussion" areas.
I'm not going to go into details, but what I read made me glad that I am a metal fan. Very glad.
Ugh! |

The same could probably be said for someone looking in on our board though. Although we are pretty civil here. |

Did you really understand what they were saying though? All I hear from rap people on TV is like "Yo yo, bling bling to the fling fling, and kick it on the fly my stone cold doggy dog."
Try a little experiment iwarrior. Go back on that board and just start making up all kinds of strange words and I bet you'll have a nice discussion with a couple of guys and not even know what you're talking about! |

Yeah, they talk in hip-hop slang on the boards I saw, which is pretty silly. What bothered me though,is that there was a ton of race-bating going on("whitey sucks" type stuff,"Chinese people smell and talk funny","black people rule"),and when it came to musical discussion, there was no insight.
It was sad, because the media portrays the hip-hop culture as being very inclusive, but from what I saw,if you weren't black, you were held with utter contempt. They didn't even like Eminem. I've rarely seen that kind of racialism on metal boards, and when it has reared its ugly head, the morons were either flamed heavily or banned. |

As a big fan of SMART hip-hop, I have to lament the unavoidable fact that most mainstream rap fans, regardless of color, are ignorant slobs who string together trendy urban slang in order to seem different from some perceived white status quo (ironic, since it is the urban culture which is the tiresome, now unimaginative norm). However, there are a number of academic, highly intellectual proprietors, critics and advocates of the artform. The best place to look is at some of the forums and articles at indie rap sites like www.hiphopinfinity.com or www.undergroundhiphop.com. |

Hell, I still hear the white suburban (c)rap kids (or "whiggers" if you will) using the n word when talking about black people. I kinda look at that as biting the hand that feeds them. Then again, some comedian (can't remember who) pretty much hit the nail on the head when talking about these kids. He said "white kids like everything about black culture - except the blacks." |

I remember working with a "white gangsta" one summer. It was ironic, since he was incredibly racist towards blacks, yet he loved black music. We didn't get along, not only because of his bigotry, but also because he thought metal was stupid. Luckily I worked with another metalhead. This kid pulled all sorts of crap. He would throw rocks at cars with black passengers among other things(this was at a nightclub). The only reason he never got fired was because he was the boss' son. Last I heard he was in jail for selling drugs. |
