I was riding in my car with a good friend of mine the other day and I popped in a new CD I had. This is a friend that I have logged many miles with in the past ten years, listening to music, being in bands, going to shows. I could tell something wasn't right, it wasn't the same anymore. He just didn't seem to get excited about the music anymore. It kinda made me think about getting older, moving on, how things change. I remember when I had a dozen people in my life that I could talk metal with and listen to music. Now I think I'm down to one, and he lives a couple hundred miles away.
I'm just wondering, we're all similar ages on this board, how many people you each have in your lives (not counting people here) that you can share your feelings about music with. In high school and college it seemed like there were many, but one by one they drop out as they get older. Now, like I said, I can only think of one person I can really talk about music with. Is it the same for everyone? |

Not many. And those I do, aren't that interested, especially with newer bands. |

None. Since I moved to the US, I've met a total of zero new people, but I'm not going into that!
Mind you, I know what you mean, a lot of my friends in England that did listen to metal felt they'd grown out of it, whereas I just can't listen to the generic pop punk bands that litter the charts. |

I don't think it's the issue of getting older, maybe their musical tastes have shifted, more than likely what pulls people away from their hobbies is a serious change in lifestyle ie: marriage/kids/home/mortgage/increased responsibilites at work - there's usually something that takes away the time that is usually devoted to music/sports etc...when I reach a point when all musical releases bore me to tears then I'll move on to something else. |

None, but is not a question of age is that my friends are back home and I'm here alone
That I believe is why I'm lurking in forums, before coming here I never was into them.
But next year...

Well, what do you expet if you're gonna hang around in Purgatory?
I know what you mean though, it's the same for me, although my friends are on a whole different continent! |

Well, I feel I'm bit younger than most on the board (22), I've got 2 friends that I can talk metal to. |

I haven't had friends who were into metal since the guys who got me into metal in the first place. All my friends are Dixie Chicks-type people. They can't stand my music, but they know I can stand theirs even less. |

I have only one or two friends who listen to metal. My best friend, with whom I have been friend since diaper times, is as anti metal as you can get. Most of the guys I hang around with are not very interested in my stuff, that's why when I discuss metal with someone it's usually an arguement/debate. |
