I am almost as shocked to see Bralllalaa making dumba$$ed comments. I am beside myself.

yeah? I give good reasons for the comments I make. I substantiate them with evidence. When a band says they are responsible for various genres of rock music as Sabbath does, yet many of the bands in them don't care for Sabbath, I think it is Sabbath who has the explaining to do. This is the crappy attitude that has always made Sabbath suck.
Okay, I have not ever been super-into Black Sabbath. I like them a lot, but they were before my day, and I find their sound a little dated. However, I can't see how ANY metal player (even a loosely defined one like you) can not see Black Sabbath as THE major turning point in heavy rock history. I love Zeppelin, and will probably listen to them more than Sabbath, but compare Page's playing with Iommi's. It aint the same, not even close. Hendrix was a great early hard rock player, and one of my great guitar heros, but Iommi puts him to shame as a master of heavy, evil, riffage. I do not think it is any kind of exaggeration to say that NO band we talk about on this board would likely have existed if not for Black Sabbath and specifically Tony Iommi. I don't know how you say that no bands are influenced by them because I can't think of a more revered band in the metal community.

In closing, show some repect for those who came before you. If you don't like them that's fine, but next time you plug into your amp and turn the distortion up to 11 remember that you have them to thank for that beautiful sound you hear.

Dude, give it a ****ing rest! My grandmother came before me, but I don't worship her for it! What a foolish mentality these kinds of Sabbath rallying antics are. The fact is, I would take KISS any day of the week over Black Sabbath and I am not even a Kiss fan!!! I know what is essential to what I do, and Sabbath isn't it! I am!

See it how you want, Brlalallaaa. The fact is that you are one of very few metal guitarists on the planet that don't get the importance of Black Sabbath. Now, is it us, or is it you? I'm not saying you have to like them, but just give respect where it is due.

You should respect your gramma too.

Gramma?
That's right!! What interest has the far superior Van Halen to do with Iommi and Sabbath, which is nothing but a band for oppression and negativity as far as I am concerned.

Comparing Van Halen to Black Sabbath is like comparing shit to gold.

Tony Iommi over the course of 20 years made these excellent records:

Debut
Paranoid
Volume 4
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Sabotage
Never Say Die
Heaven and Hell
Seventh Star
Eternal Idol
Tyr

While Eddie Van Halen made their great debut record, and never got that good again.

Yes, yes I agree, but my point is that their new albums aren't relevant. Same deal with new Metallica. Same deal with Maiden, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, Def Leppard, Maiden, Priest, Slayer.

The newer bands are the ones that are relevant with the albums they are coming out with right now. Arch Enemy may not be as relevant as old Sabbath, but they are more relevant than new Sabbath or Metallica.

I agree with ya Jake.

Ok, let the old fart say something.

Heavy Metal did not start out as an evil, dark, murading monster. If anyone created Heavy Metal it was Hendrix, he let loose the flood gates for every guitarist afterwards from Page to Blackmore to Iommi. All Black Sabbath was, was a different version. In my day their was no arguement whether Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, were all metal or not, we all considered them Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal has evolved since that time, but to lable some of these old artists non-metal or Black Sabbath as the originator is totally mis-guided, that is akin to saying Hank Williams Sr. is not country anymore because of artists like Clint Black, Alabama, Willie Nelson ect. I don't even like country music, but know about it enough to know whats country & whats not. So fans of Heavy Metal should also realize that it was people like Hendrix, & songs like "Purple Haze," "Foxy Lady" that Heavy Metal spang forth with, three years before Sabbath.

I dont know much about the techical stuff on guitar playing but I would have to say Heavy Metal in fact Was started by Black Sabbath no-one before made the same tone and sound come out of their guitars...and Bill Ward backbeat no-one even now can touch...so Sabbath to me is truly unique will go down as the fathers of Heavy Metal...not Zep,steppenwolf or Hendrix..... While I do believe Black Sabbath is responsible for most of what "metal" is today, "Foxy Lady" is definitely the first metal or heavy rock song but hey, the arguement can go on and on.

The other thing is I am not surprised that there are some metal fans out there who do not dig Sabbath. I think Sabbath is an aquired taste, there are some people I know who consider Ozzy era Sabbath to be boring/dull, they are more of post-Ozzy Sabbath fans.
