What are we going to do when the metal icons die?
People like Alice Cooper can not be replaced.
People like Ozzy Osbourne can not be replaced.
People like Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler and Bill Ward can not be replaced.
People like Lemmy can not be repalced.
People like Gene Simmons (as much as I hate his solo work) can not be replaced.
People like Ace Frehley can not be replaced.
People like Blackie Lawless (as much as I hate his stuff since K.F.D.) can not be replaced.
People like Rob Halford (as much as I know that homosexuality is mental illness) can not be replaced. Nor can Glen Tipton and K.K. Downing.
When Randy Rhodes died in a ridiculous recreational plane crash, Ozzy (thank you) managed to motor on with the very good Jake E. Lee.
When an excellent singer murders Yngwie Malmsteen for firing him, how will we motor on?
How are the rest of us going to motor on? |

Pretty much everyone you mentioned has been musically dead for years, so it matters little (from a Metal perspective) when they pass on. Now, what would we do if Warrell Dane, Michael Romeo, Mikael Ankerfeldt, Jon Schaffer and Tom Englund died? Then we'd be f@#ked.

Go for it Zod-- You're right, if Romeo croaked, who'd carry Yngwie's jock strap? |

While I largely echo Zod's sentiment of the most part of the elder statesmen of metal having far less than their fair share to offer these days, I would still be saddened by their passing even as a fan who harbors little flickering hopes for renewed relevance. However I have to point out with this:

Ridiculous as it sounds, no less an authority than Cooper himself said that Alice Cooper can indeed be replaced and probably should. |

New talents will take their place, bands like Orphaned Land and Pain of Salvation already have legends in the making as for the rest General Zod mentioned some of them.
I will be sad if they (esp. Lemmy, Dio) died but people come and go, in other words life goes on.
There is one thing though, well I dont't wanna sound like a prick but I'll actually be glad if Gene Simmons chokes on something and leaves soon. |

Being not a big Priest, Ozzy, Kiss, & W.A.S.P. fan I could really care less about their contribution, but will mourn their passing never the less.
They question should've of been: What would we done without the pioneers of Metal? |

Just so that my sentiments are clear, I would hate to see anyone pass (especially before their time) who has contributed in any way to my life. And music is such a large part of my life, as I'm sure it is for everyone here.
The one person who CoW missed, is Mr. Ronnie James. That man is as much or more of a legend (at least in my eyes) as anyone that was mentioned. I think Dio too often fails to get his just due.

Live, then we'd be screwed, literally.
Life is life folks, and, if you noticed, a lot of people have been kicking it recently. New faces will come along and carry the torch, just like it always has been.
Why do I feel like inviting you all over to have a hand-holding singalong? |
