In Tyranno's "Okay, people...gimme something with awesome, awesome vocals" thread, which all of sudden popped back to the top, I noticed that you were both considering picking up "Heathen Machine", based in least at part on my recommendation. Whenever someone buys something that I recommended, I can't help but feel responsible for the $15 I may have caused them to waste. So I'm curious, what you guys thought of it.

I used to hate your recommendations after I bought V by Symphony X and then an Evergrey album. But now V is one of my favorite albums from the last five years. So thanks. |

Jake,
Thanks. Actually, "V" took forever to grow on me. What about the Evergrey?

It is still on order [img]images/smiles/icon_mad.gif[/img] , I have heard the two tracks from the album (title track, Necessary Evil) and they were pretty impressive. I'll let u know as soon as I get my hands on it. |

I still cam't get imto Evergrey. I like parts of it, but them they lose the groove amd it bothers me. Like the album [Recreatiom Day] starts out awesome for the first tem secomds you have this great lead part amd riff, them it mellows. Seems like every somg does that.
I also saw them live which usually will amplify my feelimgs for the bamd if the show is good. The show was ok im my opimiom. The soumd quality was good emough that it would have brought out the good stuff if it was my type of thimg. I'm goimg to comtimue givimg it chamces though. It ism't im my trade list yet [umlike Alchemist amd Imagika- two other "mewer" bamds I cammot get imto].
I also bought The Odyssey recemtly [well actually it may have beem im Jamuary] at amy rate, it didm't take amy time to grow om me, but I dom't like it as much as V. I dom't like the guitar tome Romeo uses for ome thimg. It's too chumky for a power/prog bamd. Soumds like the type of thimg pamtera would use. There is some Pamtera/Zakk Wylde/Slayer chumky guitar playimg im there. I thimk people were commemtimg om that before, whem the album first came out. Well I dom't really like that style. Everythimg is just a little rougher aroumd the edges [imcludimg Rus Allem] tham before, but it is more metal.
At this poimt, V is im my permamemt rotatiom pile alomg with the 7Os Scorpioms albums, Hail to Emglamd, Imto Glory Ride, Earthquake [Uli Jom Roth], Lightmimg to the Matioms, Burmimg Bridges, Jester Race, Im Rock, Raimbow Risimg, Wake of Magellam, Edge of Thorms, Tyr, some other stuff, amd recemtly I added Dreamimg Meom Black imto there too [that album took a lomg time to grow om me too. At this poimt I've takem quite a likimg to that album. How come other bamds dom't write stuff like Decomstructiom?] |

I liked it, mostly for melodies and vocals (still a liiiiitle more yelpy than I'd like, but well done nevertheless), though I think it could've used some improvement riffwise. For that reason, it's a little tough to say if it'll get frequent plays, but it certainly made a good first (uh, through fifth) impression. |

Glad to hear you guys have enjoyed those discs to varying degrees.
As for Evergrey, do you have "In Search of Truth"? I think "Recreation Day" may be their least impressive disc, due in part to their own poor prodcution.
