I'm sure a lot of people (including me) weren't surprised about Johnny Cash, especially with his wife dying a few months earlier - he had a really hard time dealing with that. Not to mention that even though he was 71, he looked like he was 91.
I don't how many of y'all had any of his Rick Rubin-produced albums, but some of the remakes he did were excellent - Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage" and Neil Diamond's "Solitary Man" were just a few of my personal faves. He did a really great job of taking a lot of diverse tunes from different artists and making them his own. My favorites are still from his Sun Records and early Columbia days though - damn fine rockabilly.
While we're on the subject of celebrities dying, who else was totally shocked at John Ritter's passing? I'd seen some interviews with him over the years, and the guy was a real card, totally funny. Personally, I wasn't too crazy about "8 Simple Rules..." but I knew some people who never missed it.
Definitely a sad day in the music/entertainment industry yesterday. |

I couldn't say I know a lot about John Ritter but Johnny Cash's death, thought unamazing, was really the sad news of the day.
R.I.P. Johnny. |
