|Today the team I coach, the Celtics, played the Sixers for the second time this year.
Both sides were a little sloppy in the first half, and neither offense got untracked. The half time
score was 10 - 8 us. I wasn't pleased with my team's interior defense. All four baskets the Sixers
scored were on weakside layups because the forward on that side was out of position. For those
that have been paying attention to these posts throughout the season, you'll remember that
my forwards have been the biggest defensive problem all year.
In the second half we finally got in gear and with 9 minutes to play we had run up a 20-10 lead.
Then for some reason my guys decided to try and coast through the rest of the game. They
allowed the Sixers to go on a 10 - 2 run of their own to pull within 2 points at 22-20. Luckily,
we hit one basket and my point guard nailed to free throws to ice the 26-20 victory.
My center played a strong solid game with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
I was very happy to finally have broken through with one of my forwards who I've been on his
case all year to get him to drive to the hoop. Today he did it and made this unbelievably beautiful move
to lay the ball up and in.
My forwards played much better defensively in the second half.
The guards were not involved much in the scoring today, only 4 points but the pressure defense they put on was out of this world.
4 points came from unexpected places. The backup guard took a shot, missed, got his own
rebound and hit the follow up for his first points in four games. Then one of my backup forwards
hit a nice little jump shot in the first half.
We're 5-3 now. We're in first place in our division with 2 games to go. If we stay in that positiion
we'll open up the playoffs as the #2 overall seed.
I'm also in the running, I think, to be the coach of one of the conference All-Star teams for our All-Star Day in two weeks.
