(Please, somebody move this topic to Artist Discussion please)

Hello I'm listening the new Europe Album right now.

I'm in the fifth song.

Pretty new refreshing sound...pretty american though...
it seems they want to make it fast once again....I dunno yet.

It doesn't has the impact from Dokken's return nor the Refreshing and new sound but rocker from Scorpion's new Album.

I Don't know who the producer was...I need to check that...I think that's important here because the sound doesn't remember me my loved Europe. Embarassed

Anyway..I haven't listenm to the complete record yet and I have listen to it once (half a 1 Laughing )

I'll be putting my impressions.

If anyone already listen to it 3 or 5 times please tell us your impressions.

Be fine!!!

Hi my metalbrothers!

I listening the Europe´s new album too .... it calls "START FROM THE DARK"....

And my opinion about this album?

Well, in this year we can listen amazing returns of great bands, DOKKEN and their "Hell and pay" (the album of the year, in my opinion) "Unbreakable" of the german machine SCORPIONS, two new songs of VAN HALEN (with Sammy Haggar), DIO, etc.....

And we wait the new of JUDAS (WOW! hahaha) TWISTED SISTER.....

But the new album of EUROPE....well...a many people (myself) have lot of expectations of this album....maybe a return of the sounds of THE FINAL COUNTDOWN or their first albums...but START FROM THE DARK...IS A GREAT DISSAPOINTMENT

The tracks havent tasteless......
Whitout force....without attittude

maybe if i listen the album again and again....can catch me...i dont think so....

well ...thats all

BY MY METAL BROTHERS!!

I have not gotten the album yet but I was looking forward to checking it out.

Kind of sad that there is so much negativity about it here.

Well, here's my review of it:

EUROPE
Start From The Dark (Eng)
Sony

I can imagine there was one or two hard decisions to make before the band pressed the Rec-button. Do you reclaim the crown by going forward or backwards? Whichever way, some people will moan and complain anyway! Personally, after having heard the album about ten times, I must say I think they have succeeded extremely well in making a hybrid of the two. There's still the sweetness of Joey's voice, but more mature, the melodic feel and the simplicity. Here's on the other hand the fat and heavy riffs you find in some of today's chart climbers and quite a different song structure than before. They have however not compromised, like some of the comptetitors, and excluded the guitar solos, but they are shorter, more efficient and more thought through. Better shine in fifteen seconds than play flame thrower in three minutes. Furthermore Haugland has discovered the joy of playing more percussive, which perfectly fits tracks like Reason, Roll With You, Wake Up Call and Sucker. The latter tells the story of the guitar loving groupie. "She's a sucker for a guitar hero", sings Tempest and Norum delivers a riff to proove his status. If they earlier were influenced by bands like Rainbow and Deep Purple, it now feel more like Zakk Wylde's detuned phat riffs have had a nice impact on said Norum. In the outstanding heavy rockers Gotta Have Faith and Start From The dark he has even detuned to B. The choruses of Rason and Sucker made me think of bands like Hoobastank and Nickleback, while the intro riff of America is a blue print of Riot's old "Rock City", probably not consciously, but anyway. The track feel a bit like the "Scream Of Anger" of the new century. Bands like Nickleback, Creed and Hoobastank feels a bit related in other songs, too, such as Wake Up Call. It however never takes over, but leaves a strong Europe-imprint. The song "Hero" is actually the only track that made me think of "old" Europe, here also with Norums typically Thin Lizzy-inspired harmony solo. I'd also like to give John Leven extra credit for his tasty bass playing in the chorus. Another new feature is the frequent use of the Tritonus-scale (used in the intro of Hendrix Purple Haze and also frequently used by Dokken's George Lynch) in songs like Flames and Spirit Of The Underdog. The guitar sound has also been given a curent touch with lots of slightly muffled neck pick-up playing. Reason and the finisher Settle For Love are in my opinion the weakest tracks, that drags down the perfect score slightly. Especially the latter ballad, a happy Mediterranean thing more likely to be found on one of Tempest's solo albums. I also recommend listening in head phones, as you then find the background doomed, but still effective, keyboards. You also find other effects like string scraping and acoustic guitars lightening up sope of the heavy riffs. The best riff of the album, in my humble opinion, is "Song #12", with its powerful intro, cool verse and crushing guitar breaks. Killer production by Kevin Elson. I will definitely wear out my CD!
