SPITFIRE RECORDS NEWS UPDATE - OCTOBER 2002
CONTENTS:
News updates on Napalm Death, Overkill, Cathedral, Tribe Of Judah, DIO, Sixty Watt Shaman, Dog Fashion Disco, Ted Nugent, Black Label Society, Pissing Razors, Danzig, Testament and The Exploited.
Tour updates on Napalm Death, DIO, Dog Fashion Disco, Alice Cooper, Danzig, Gilby Clarke and LA Guns.
NAPALM DEATH
England’s incomparable grindcore progenitors are geared up and ready for blast-off. The earth-shaking 'ORDER OF THE LEECH' drops on November 5 and they’re hitting the road in North America in January 2003 with Nile, Voivod, and Strapping Young Lad. See the tour section for confirmed dates so far.
The Birmingham bashers grace the cover of the new issue of the mighty UNRESTRAINED! Magazine and will be METAL MANIACS’ coverboys in the Jan. 2003 issue (on sale November). The masters are back, friends.
OVERKILL
New Jersey’s heavy metal legends have entered an undisclosed studio in their home state with producer Colin Richardson to begin the recording of their debut studio album for Spitfire Records. This occasion marks the first time since 1993 that the thrash metal veterans have utilized an outside producer. The as-yet untitled album is scheduled for release in April 2003.
Finishing touches are being put on Overkill’s first ever DVD release ‘WRECKING EVERYTHING - AN EVENING IN ASBURY PARK’ which is scheduled for release on November 19. This DVD features the entire Asbury Park performance from earlier this year along with hours of exclusive on-stage and off-stage bonus footage filmed throughout the bands’ storied career. Screener copies will be available for media very soon.
CATHEDRAL
The madness of Lee Dorrian and company reaches new heights on their seventh studio album, the appropriately titled 'VIIth COMING' (November 5). Possibly their most ambitious and well-rounded effort to date, the album is a riveting rocket-ride through the cavernous depths and stratospheric heights that the band has made famous.
“…the best of both worlds, from organ-dosed ‘70s rump-shaking to morose, post-Sabbath doom metal; some songs are both at once, somehow, creating a sound that is just Cathedral.” - BRAVEWORDS.com
TRIBE OF JUDAH
The incomparable Gary Cherone returns with the multi-dimensional debut ‘EXIT ELVIS’ Building a bridge between progressive hard rock and the wide open field of electronic experimentation, TRIBE OF JUDAH succeeds in destroying preconceptions and leaves the playing field wide open for the future. ‘EXIT ELVIS’ will be released on 10/22. For all things TOJ, contact Carol Kaye at Kayos Productions: 212-366-9970.
DIO
Hot off the heels of a sold-out European tour and the Limited Edition release of the acclaimed ‘KILLING THE DRAGON’ album, Ronnie James Dio will return to US shores with Kings X and Hammerfall in November. See tour section for dates.
SIXTY WATT SHAMAN
Maryland’s whiskey-soaked rockers will be announcing American tour dates very soon. In the meantime, check out just some praise for the stunning ‘REASON TO LIVE’…
“An anthemic second album that attacks from all angles…always armed to the teeth” - REVOLVER (Nov/Dec 2002)
“This is the album Sixty Watt Shaman needed to make…heavy music heads will be talking about Reason To Live as an important disc for quite a few years” - BULLY (Sep 2002)
“Superior rock-n-roll mayhem that grabs you by the throat. The Shaman are back with more than 60 watts behind them this time!” - NC SCENE (Sep 2002)
DOG FASHION DISCO
Our own maniacal band of musical misfits have literally just confirmed a tour with Mindless Self Indulgence. See tour section for dates.
The band is currently finishing work on their second full-length album,
scheduled for release in March 2003. What will it sound like? Well, as
always, expect the unexpected: a wonderfully schizophrenic mix of aggressive modern metal peppered with harpsichord insanity, brass-infused mid-70s soul, and a chemically-influenced tendency to let things get totally out of hand.
“It’s like Tool jamming with Devo conducted by Frank Zappa…DFD exhibit more wit and wrath than any band I’ve heard in years…5 out of 5 stars!” - Kerrang!

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY
Zakk Wylde has recently begun work on the follow-up to the monumental 1919 ETERNAL album. Stay tuned for a studio report from the man himself.
This past weekend, Zakk was a special guest at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland for Fortune Magazines’ Battle of the Corporate Bands and will be appearing as a guest of Gibson guitars at the Arlington Guitar Show in Arlington, TX on October 19th. He will be signing autographs at 1:30pm and 4:30pm. Press credentials for this event are available.
PISSING RAZORS
PISSING RAZORS welcome new vocalist Andre Acosta into the fold. Acosta makes his national debut on the upcoming live album 'LIVE FROM THE DEVILS’ TRIANGLE', scheduled for release on November 19.
DANZIG

TESTAMENT
The kings of Bay Area Thrash are back in action! Testament will be headlining the Metal Zone stage at the upcoming Bone Bash III on November 2 in Concord, CA and have extensive European tour plans in place for early 2003. New material is currently being composed and we can expect the long-awaited new studio album to arrive in the spring of 2003.
THE EXPLOITED
At long last, we’ve had the chance to hear a sneak preview of the upcoming album from these punk rock icons. Prepare yourself for a crunchy dose of the old-school when **** THE SYSTEM drops on January 28.
