I read about that. But then I recall being in a huge verbal war with a guy over a year ago because I thought North Korea sould be our priority.

Live and learn I guess. But be careful Midnight Sun... I'll think all the posative thoughts I can for you and everyone over there laying it all on the line.

North Korea has been a threat to South Korea for... well, much longer than I've been around. The United States invades Iraq to secure their supply (Second largest in the world) of oil for our purpose, using Suddam Hussien (spelling?) as the scapegoat for this action. Meanwhile, North Korea gets more & more defiant, & may well jepordise global security... but one has to ask the question....Is North Korea developing nuclear arms for aggressive purpose, or has there been so much aggression from countries like the United States in the past, that they feel the need for nuclear arms as a deterrent for more aggression against them? I'm not trying to stick up for North Korea, for they've had designs on the South for a long time, but then again, the two countries were once one. We had civil war here in the states once to. But, with Bush calling the shots, & his obvious disregard for what the rest of the world thinks, I believe North Korea is sending him a strong message, leave us alone, or we'll protect ourselves in anyway possible. Lets hope Bush does not force their hand, for everyone's sake, including South Korea's. That is not to say we should turn a blind eye to North Korea, especially if they invade the south, but we should step lightly, for the ice is thin.

Midnight Sun, you have my deepest sympathy, & may all be well for you & your loved ones.

Having participated in 2 exercises (Bear Hunt and Team Spirit) while in the Marines in South Korea back in the 80's, I can tell you this: The closer you get to the DMZ, the more the South Koreans appreciate the Americans being there. Why? They realixe the threat that the North posesses.
North Korea has more troops and tanks then the US. However, their tanks are old Soviet tanks, and their troops are not as well trained nor eqiuped.

But, if the US wasn't over in South Korea, you could place a pretty good bet that the North would just walk right over the border.

I agree that we should have looked at NK before we even looked at Iraq. I said it all along to let the UN handle Iraq until we are done with NK.

Now we have to keep our eye on Iran.
