Do you ever get the feeling that "hair metal" will be back in the limelight real soon?

Here's a few observations I've picked up lately...

A. First of all, the people who loved "hair metal" never gave up on it. It's still the music they love.

B. I heard a guy crankin' his car stereo the other day and it was "Steel Dragon"! Although chronologically Steel Dragon isn't really of the hair band era, it was meant to be a simulation of one...and certainly sounds like one IMO.

C. My coworkers son, who is 13, has traded in his Slipknot and Disturbed cd's for Poison, Motley Crue and G&R!

D. The "classic rock" stations are adding more and more of it to their playlists, at least around here.

I just get this uneasy feeling that it's gonna be back....the next "new" thing. Anybody else notice this movement, or am I just witnessing random acts of Rogaine?

After I typed my original post, I read an interview with Nikki Sixx who said that the crowds at thier shows are mostly made up of young people - too young to remember them from the first time around. Another sign!!

So I wonder what it's going to be? Old, balding 40 year old's in spandex or young guys mixing hair metal with rap?

Either way, I'm scared! I don't know if I can take a second wave!

Or maybe I should be optimistic.....nah......

I'm going to dust off my Venom albums "just in case"! They got me through the 80's the first time....

I don't think it would come back that hard. the stylings and attitude of Motley Crue are somewhat universally popular. I mean tattoos, porn chicks, "f**k you" attitude. It just goes with what metal is supposedly about. Even if you don't like numetal it has the supposedly same idea as regular metal- ie "f**k you" trendies. Motley Crue and a lot of these other bands are pretty good at saying "f**k you" so someone with a grudge or hyperactive side is always likely to follow them. Too bad they are busy cursing and f**k chicks and forget to write decent songs anymore- same old shit.

Doubt that it will ever happen.

BUT... I did see some a few guys, who were into the whole 'Alternative' thing ( RATM, STP, AIC, Soundgarden) beetching and moaning about how all new music sucks, the other day.

'Twas nearly exactly what I said about the stuff they like, back in the day.

Funny how SOME things don't change...

Also note that tours like "The Rock Never Stops" with bands like Ratt and Cinderella have been doing well and I know that the past few years of Poison touring have been good to them as well.

I see kids (under age 18 ) with tour shirts of 80's metal bands all of time. I'm not sure if they're mocking the bands or what, but either way there's definitely people taking some sort of notice again.

If the 80's scene were to return, the most important aspect of it would be the song writing, quality of music, and quantity of just plain good/great songs that were generated in that era. Screw the hair and spandex and "love" ballads!!! We all experienced some enjoyable tunes from the bands that had their genesis during that time, and we saw many 70's bands, like Rush, Priest, Scorpions, AC/DC, Van Halen, and so on thrive during that time, because quality ouput was demanded. I think we see some of that influence in some up and coming bands today, like Brand New Sin and Dirty Americans, and not the nu-metal crap which will burn out just like alternative did. So bring back all that was good, and buy all the Rogaine there is!!!!!
