I went with Diary of a Madman. 10 years ago I probably would have went with Blizzard of Ozz, but due to the amount of play I've gotten burned out on many of the tracks on that album. While I think Ozzy has released a few pretty good albums since the Rhodes era, I still think those first two albums are far better than anything he's released since. |

Ozzy's material hasn't really held up over time. Most of his stuff is just junk that may have had a valuable influence on the 80s scene [and nostalgic metalheads], but judged on it's own merits is not very good.
The only album I like all the way through is Bark at the Moon. Jake E Lee has some inspiring guitar work, and the songs in general are well written.
Diary of a Madman has some nice experimental guitar work and tones, but I don't think the songs are as well done.
Blizzard of Oz just isn't really that good of an album. Most of the songs suck. The ones that don't suck [with exception of Revelation Mother Earth] have been played to death on the radio. I can't stand listening to this album. Fortunately Alex Skolnick's "Jazz" version of Revelation Mother Earth replaces Ozzy's voice with lead breaks so I can just listen to that version rather than put in this dinosaur. |

i seen ozzy/randy rhodes sept 8, 1981 /with def leppard (pete willis)
and i seen van halen a few months prior,

he played with his eyes closed and just ripped with his head bakk
he wasnt a very mobile guitarist.
