I think he's probably the same height.

But seriously , Malmsteen is Malmsteen. He's one of the most talented guitar players in the world. Has he progressed much since his first few releases? Why don't you ask HIM?

Why bother asking Malmsteen? He says "I've completely reinvented myself" before every single release. (just revisited _Facing The Animal_ last night, I think I have a new least-favorite...at least it makes the upward trend since then that much more dramatic)

I'm not so sure I want Malmsteen to "grow" - but I do want him to get focused, get working on things which we know only Malmsteen can do in terms of creation NOT just performance, and take himself off autopilot. Since _Fire & Ice_, despite how much I liked _The 7th Sign_, there've been two things Yngwie's done in terms of creation which I don't think anyone else could have - the Concerto album, and "Blue" (he FINALLY pulled off his attempts at blues stylings...and he did it by squeezing them into a waltz-lyke format. Now THAT'S the Yngwie I remember and love.).

Some bands, like AC/DC, you can forgive for coasting on past glories because you know it's all they're capable of. Yngwie has no such excuse.

I actually think that Yngwie is pretty unique, in that he can't win no matter what he does. His fans are probably the most demanding of any musician, and when he tries to please one section of them he normally pisses off another (he has a third section of fans including me who genuinely like everything he does). I find "War To End All Wars" to be his best album for a long time, it's very hard hitting in a similar vein to "Marching Out", however, there are a lot of things there that he hasn't done before. I really thought that this album would please everyone; instead it seems to be the most hotly debated album of all time!!! Still, the good news for those who didn't like it is that he is working on another classical album....unfortunately it will be three or four years before it is released.

PS. Almost forgot to answer the topic....Jimmy Page. He might be a legend, but it seems to me like he's forgotten how to play a guitar solo.

LOL....of course Ed, it's a part of his act. He still throws it in the air and catches it, and plays it with his teeth, and all those other tricks. Although I have to say, he does seem to do it a little less these days. Personally, although it's probably unnecessary, I think it adds to the excitement of the show.

Yngwies act was comedy in its purest form. I'm sorry, but throwing picks up and kicking them into the crowd just screams cheese. I never saw him in the old days but about two months ago it seemed all he did was fancy tricks....he should try writing some good songs instead of showing off all the time....

Oh, I'd certainly agree that Yngwie's unique, in good ways and bad, but ultimately, being an orignal is something to be applauded for. And as for WTEAW being his most hotly debated album, that's usually a sign of the artist doing something right (unless it's a debate between people who like him so much that they can't admit that he can occasionally fail - fanboys - and those who hate him so much that they can't admit that he can occasionally succeed - panboys) I hope to see Yngwie giving me more cause for debate in the future.

Edison - your post is genuinely laughable.
