I haven't heard TON's "Light My Fire", but I've heard Amorphis' version. I dunno...I can't stand the Doors, never could, and would find just about anything more listenable.
I think when it comes to these 60's rock songs which have been played to death by rock radio, just about any cover is going to sound fresher than the original at this point. |

Actually, most of the time when I hear a Motorhead cover I like it better than the original. I don't know, I just tend to like Motorhead better for their songwriting than actual performances of those songs. I just don't like the way they sound for some reason, but when a band takes their sound and makes it more "metal" (and I've seen interviews with Lemmy where he says he doesn't consider Motorhead metal, so don't jump on me for that comment), I tend to like it better than the "dirty rock" sound of Motorhead. |

In Flames did a cover of "Everything Counts" by Depecker Mode, and it HAD to be better, just by not being Depecker Mode!
Supersuckers' version of "Burnin' Up" by Madonna - MUCH better than the original.
Faster Pussycat's version of "You're So Vain" by Carly Simon
there are others, for sure, but my mind is clogged right now... |
