The funny thing about the whole grunge thing was that I thought it was going to be the end of real metal. I remeber Alice and Chains on the Clash of the Titans tour with Slayer, Antrax and Megadeth (even earlier opening for Extreme). I was saying to myself, is this the next wave of metal? I actually don't mind Alice and a few others, I think it was just the over all garage oil stained clothing and short hair combined with the overall sound I was not into. Everything in the grunge era just had a "sloppy" feel to it, if that makes any sense. 'Cause god knows that headbangers in general are not exactly known for having the most well-kept, and well groomed fans. I don't know if I'm making any sense here.

I don't know, maybe it was just that the whole scene made me feel like I became old all of a sudden. Grunge was the future as metal was destined to die, but luckily didn't.

For me, the first rock song that I can remember really catching my ear and making me *really* pay attention was Hocus Pocus by the band Focus.

I'd always liked the stuff on the radio, but in general it was "just there". I heard this song and it really made me listen.

From there, I started really listening to guitar-oriented rock..Ted Nugent..Sammy Hagar.. and then along came Van Halen. I was definitely hooked.

I also remember hearing Black Sabbath's Paranoid album when it was realtively new. But the two albumbs that I remember the most as influincing my liking for metal were Iron Maiden's Number Of The Beast and Dio's Holy Diver.

I got hooked to the radio when I was about 6, I loved listening to just about any type of music. My parents had old pop and country records that I also listened to a lot. When I was 12 I started hearing Sabbath, Grand Funk, and Zeppelin for the first time, hence I became addicted to hard rock/metal. I listened to nothing but metal for about the next 7-8 years. Then one of my roommates in the Navy let me listen to his Katrina and the Waves tape one day, and I started getting into new wave a little bit. (I still have some best of new wave CDs in my collection.) I got into some grunge such as AIC, Soundgarden, and Nirvana (though it made me sick how a lot of teens thought of Kurt Cobain as some sort of conquering god). Then when all this (c)rap-rock started invading the radio, all I listened to was my CD player. Thank goodness I found Hardradio!!!

It was winter of 77 and spring of 78, when I discovered Kiss with Destroyer, Cheap Trick - Heaven Tonight, Aerosmith - Toys In The Attic, Ted Nugent - Cat Scratch Fever, and Foghat - Live.

Geez... I'd say it would've been around `89 or `90 when I got hooked. I definatly remember that my first Hard Rock/Metal Tape was AC/DC's "The Razors Edge". That was it.. It was all over. In a matter of 3 months after I had purchased every AC/DC album that was available to date. Then it was Metallica. I started out with the "Black Album". Now I've progressed to S.O.D., Arch Enemy, Type O Negative, Angel Dust, Jag Panzer, the list goes on and on..
