This is something that has me curious. I was hooked on rock ever since I heard Donald Roeser's kickass solo in Don't Fear The Reaper. That got me addicted to classic rock. What got me addicted to newer rock was Breakout by Foo Fighters. But my question is; What got you addicted to rock?

First song I ever enjoyed was Quiet Riot's rendition of "C'mon feel the Noise". Maybe even Van Halen's "Jump". I was 9.

But the first real band that got me into it was Bon Jovi with "Bad Medicine". I had liked some Guns n Roses, a little Van Halen, a bit of Poison and some Def Leppard, but nothing more and nothing relevant. I mean, at that time, during the late 80s, I listened to anything on the radio, from Madonna to the New Kids on the Block, from Paula Abdul to Roxette.

But Bon Jovi's New Jersey changed that.

But the first CD that really got me into metal must have been Queensr˙che's Empire. I had heard "Silent Lucidity" once and I bought the CD, and just got into them after that. They're still my fave band.

Other CDs that got me into rock after Empire were Warrant's Cherry Pie, Slaughter's Stick it to ya and Poison's Flesh & Blood. It all went downhill after that, 'cause I started digging into more rock bands.

So now I have tastes that range from Trixter to Edguy, from Bryan Adams to Nightwish.

I have to thank my dad for being a big rock fan, and it was because of him playing "Waiting For An Alibi" by Thin Lizzy that I originally liked rock music (I was about 6 or 7 then). My first records were Thin Lizzy's "Chinatown" and Whitesnake's "Come An' Get It", which I got for my 10th birthday.

I know you guys are going to think I am not a true metalhead, and really I don't give a **** wether you do or not, but Nirvana's Nevermind got me into the music I listen to now. I think I was twleve years old when it came out.

I was trying to think of some statement to defend myself against some comments that surely going to follow my post about how grunge sucks and all that crap but, I shouldn't have to defend myself. So I won't, in this post anyways! haha

Blue Öyster Boy-

When I was 14 I bought a copy of Motley Crue's Shout at the Devil. Bang! It was all over.

When I woke up in the morning, before I went to school, I listened to that tape. When I got home from school, I listened to that tape. On the weekends, that tape played in an endless loop. This went on for five months before I ever pressed the eject button on that tape deck. And when I finally pressed eject, it was only to load a new copy of Shout, because the old tape had broken. It was a total of nine months before I listened to anything else.

To this day, that is still one of my favorite discs.

Subtraction-

Grunge is just a different sub-genre of metal, if you ask me. And Nevermind is one of the all time great discs. No apologies necessary.

By the way, you've got to love anyone who would dare to rhyme the words "Mosquito" and "Libido"

When I was 11 years old I got a Sony Walkman for Christmas and 2 tapes. Quiet Riot-Metal Health, and The Police- Synchronicity. I asked for Quiet Riot b/c all the kids at school were into Come on Feel the Noise which was always on the radio. I put the headphones on and the tape in, I had the volume up way too loud but I didn't know it. As you all probably know, the first song on the tape is metal health. This was the first time I heard that song...the drumroll, the chords, Dubrow's "Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhwwwwwww"

Yeah, that was it for me. Goodbye to normalcy. Christmas 1983, I knew metal was good. 4 months later I got my first guitar.
