-something called "The Wheel Of Time" - I don't know if that was the band or the song title, but I swear, it was the cheesiest thing I've ever heard in my life, which wants very badly to be on the soundtrack for any TWOT movie that ever gets made. In other words, not inappropriate for TWOT.
-some Chastain. Not bad, but too much like "This is my interpretation of that popular kind of music known as 'rock and roll'!"
-some Joe Stump. I lost my interest in shred guitar quite some time ago when it became clear that fewer and fewer shred guitarists had any interest in effectively communicating melody. That having been said, this guy (the radio hosts were making fun of how more-Yngwie-than-Yngwie this guy looks) was pretty good. Ten years ago, I would've ran, not walked, to the record store to get this, but now I'm only mildly curious. Still, for this kind of thing, I'm pretty impressed. Heh heh...I would never have expected a style like this from a guy named "Joe Stump".
-some Kataklysm. Like with Marduk last week, I never liked these guys before, but this song, whatever it was, was pretty damn good and considerably more melodic than my experience with this band led me to expect.
-some Hellspawn. Cradle Of Filth lite. If you can't imagine how this is possible, this band probably isn't for you.
-some Hypocrisy from that recent compilation of re-recordings. I'm stilly curious, but only mildly curious, about Hypocrisy's other works...I loved the S/T, but I have to admit I haven't been curious enough to go out and get anything else by them. I find Pete's Pain project to be a little more satisfying overall. |
