Desslar-
I wasn't trying to offend you with my statements, as I respect your opinions. For the most part, I was speaking in general terms. It was only you commenting on it, that made think of the fact that I've seen that comparison before. However, in all honesty, I don't see it... not even a little bit. First off, I've never been a fan of Paul Stanley's. I think he's got an OK sounding voice, but he really can't sing. Barlow, in my opinion, is the 2nd best lead singer in the history of Heavy Metal, right behind Geoff Tate. So to me, comparing the two is like comparing C.C. DeVille to Steve Vai.

You know, it's really funny how all of us can like most of the same bands and have such different opinions on things like this. I really like Iced Earth. But it took me a while to warm to them because I really didn't think much of Barlow.
In the end, the awesome riffs won me over and now I've gotten used to Barlow.
I've always though IE would be a perfect match for Harry "The Tyrant" Conklin. Iced Panzer. That would rock! |

I would whole heartedly agree with you. I myself have made that same point, on many occasions. And ironically, while I recognize that Conklin is a talented vocalist, I absolutely hate his voice, and if he replaced Barlow in Iced Earth, I would never by another Iced Earth disc.

While the tone of their respective voices are comparable, to equate them as vocalist, or even to suggest that they sound similar, suggests to me that the listener either hasn’t listened to both singers that closely, hasn’t listened to a great deal of music from within the genre, or perhaps just doesn’t have a very good musical ear.

Come on, let's be honest here. I've listened to many Iced Earth songs, virtually all significant Kiss songs, a couple hundred different metal bands, and it's quite clear that Barlow does slip into Paul Stanley mode here and there. Just for a few seconds, but it's there, and I think adds to the entertainment value. You can listen to Iron Maiden and Kiss at the same time. |

OK. I'm just curious... do you think that Stanley is a better vocalist than Barlow?

I don't think anybody's denying that Barlow's voice has a similar tone to Stanley's. That's about where the comparisons end, but I do think that one comparison is inevitable. |

Whether Stanley or Barlow is the superior singer is another discussion that I'm wise enough to avoid. I'm not comparing their ability, just saying that there are moments when Barlow's voice bears an uncanny resemblance to Stanley's. I'm not trying to slam Iced Earth, just making an observation.
In another example, on the Halford song "The One You Love to Hate" Dickinson and Halford sound very similar at times, although I feel Dickinson is the superior singer.
Also whoever it was who did vocals for Hericane Alice sounded a lot like Joe Eliott. |

I think Iced Earth has Maiden-like qualities, but they aren't exactly like Maiden. I like Iced Earth, but Iron Maiden out-duels them overall. |
