would you most like to see rerecord a cd from a previous band? based on that you think they would do it better? different? worse? darker? harder? or whatever? a few examples from me.
Opeth redoing Mercyful Fate's Dont break the
oath.
Nevermore redoing Queensryche's Operation
mindcrime.
Paul Dianno as the lead singer on The Number of
the beast.
Bobby Blitz lead vocals on any Annilator cd
Guy Speranzo vocals on every other Riot cd
without him.
Tony Harnell singing on pretty much any Helloween
any others? |

I'm afraid I wouldn't be terribly interested in recordings from any of those artists. More to the point, it's always seemed rather unnecessary to me for bands of the same genre to cover each other. The cover very rarely adds much to the original. Having Metallica cover Megadeth or Bon Jovi cover Kiss would just be redundant. On the other hand, covers of bands from other genres can be pretty cool. For example: Van Halen covering the Kinks, Metallica covering Queen, Motley Crue covering Brownsville Station. In these cases a metal band can add an entirely new dimension and level of intensity to the song.
Personally I've always thought it might be cool if AC/DC did Seger's Old Time Rock N Roll (with no sax and plenty of Angus of course). |

I don't think DiAnno would have done a good job on NotB. The rest I don't really know so I can't answer.
Maiden did a Golden Earring cover once that sounded pretty good, I'm trying to think of an album of GE that Maiden could actaully do and make it sound at least good. Something like Grab it for a Second might actaully come out ok.
On the flip side GE might be able to pull off Maiden's Seventh Son, it's not overly heavy so I think they could probably do it. |
