Thanks Very'eavy for mentioning our cover of "Locomotive Breath" (Which is of course what I've been waiting for the last 20 posts )
Regarding Three Man Army, I know some band did a really good cover of their "Polecat Woman", but I can't remember who for the life of me. We actually used part of "My Yiddishe Mama" as intro in the early Overdrive-days.
If I'm not mistaken Girlschool also did a cover of "Run With The Devil".
I have an old live-tape with Van Halen where they do a pretty good version of Budgie's "In For The Kill", James Gang's "Funk #49"... and Elvis "Heartbreak Hotel" (which was maybe not that good). |

Another matter... how does it count when Black Sabbath does "Smoke On The Water" with Gillan on vocals? Is that a cover or not? |

Here's a fun cover - Gun doing Cameo's "Word Up" on the _Barb Wire_ soundtrack. |

The song was originally on their album "Gallus". Killer version, indeed! |

Stark, I know that a stoner band called Raging Slab did a cover of Polecat Woman. Heard it twice, and liked it, maybe it's the one your thinking of. |

Bah, everyone's mentioned most of the good ones. I was going to say Gun's version of "Word Up", well worth a listen.
Others I like:
Almost all of Yngwie's "Inspiration" album, along with his versions of "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme", "Keep Yourself Alive" and "Speed King". Oh, and his live version of "Spanish Castle Magic" on "Live In Leningrad". And his live version of "Burn" too.
Skin doing EMF's "Unbelievable".
Dream Theater doing "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" live.
My friend's band The Sedco Semisubmersibles doing their version of Duran Duran's "Rio", except it's called "Tracy" and the chorus starts "Her name is Tracy and she's such a f***ing dog".... |

One of my favourite bands... how could I forget. They also did a great cover of "Working For The RCA (..or MCA as they named it). Awesome and totally underrated band! Songs like "Don't Dog Me", "Bend For Silver", "The Ballad Of Truly Mae" are just killer. I wouldn't call them stoner, though (even though singer Greg would qualify into that genre on other merits...) |

Best covers as of late:
Megadeth "Paranoid" (Black Sabbath)
Great White "Face The Day" (Angel City)
Stevie Rachelle and Randy Castillo "Wango Tango" (Ted Nugent)
Pantera "Cat Scracth Fever" (Ted Nugent)
Iron Maiden "Cross-Eyed Mary" (Jethro Tull)
Krokus "Stayed Awake All Night" (B.T.O.)
Overkill "Tyrant" (Judas Priest)
Iced Earth "Creatures Of The Night" (Kiss)
Nevermore "The Number Of The Beast" (Iron Maiden)
Dimmu Borgir "Burn In Hell" (Twisted Sister)
The obvious choices were already selected so I had to dig a bit deeper for my choices.
NP: Dream Theater "Misunderstood" |
