I love when they take the new technology available and remaster older albums. That is when it's done right.
I've read a few things said by Dave Mustaine trhat concern me about the up coming remastered Megadeth catalog. For one thing he's said that he's actually re-recorded some parts of So Far So Good So What. And it sounds to me as if he's saying he's going with different mixes for some tracks, and not just the bonus tracks. All this could spell disaster!
Look at what Ozzy did not too long ago.Hacking up Blizzard and Diary.Completly desecrating those classic albums. Are we to expect the same from Mustaine?
Re recorded to me is a bunch of crap.I don't want to hear alternate versions of the classic metal I love.I don't care what the artist envisioned the music to be,It is what it is,warts and all.
It's fine with me if they take the original masters and run them through the 24 bit process tweaking highs and lows and such. But when you actually remove a players performance,or re re record your parts and paste them into the mix you're messing with the mojo & the magic man.
All I know is that if Peace Sells,Rust In Peace and So Far So Good So What don't sound exactly like they did when releaesed ,only more sonically blaring, I'm gonna be pissed off! Evil or Very Mad

I heard the remastered "Set The World On Fire" and didn't like it one bit. For one thing, the drum hits are different. It's a different performance. That alone screws the whole thing up in my book.

Also, the too-clear sound makes obvious some pretty iffy rhythm guitar playing.

I'll be fine with the versions I've enjoyed for years.

No, the early ones will not sound like what we remember. Mustaine has been very clear that these are not simply remasters, but they are remixed and some things are re-done. I will admit that I am interested in checking some of these out. I always thought So Far, So Good sounded totally f*cked up. But from Countdown to Extinction on...those CDs were so slick sounding it seems kind of pointless to do anything with them. Actually, for my taste they could go back and "rough" them up a bit and I would probably prefer them. ...But I know the public probably wouldn't feel the same about that.

One other thing....

I still have not seen a listing of the bonus cuts. However, someone on the Megadeth board posted that they just bought a 2 CD bootleg entitled "Rareties." Even though I don't own any of these bootlegs, I have some knowledge about them. There is a series of them (all with the same title) and they are just a collection of b-sides and bonus cuts. I see them for sale on ebay all the time (Motley Crue and Ozzy are two examples of artists who have these types of bootlegs floating around). This is just a guess on my part, but it wouldn't surprise me if those bonus tracks were already leaked and they ended up assembled on this bootleg. Let me make it 100% clear that this is only a guess on my part, I could be absolutely wrong. Anyway, here is the track listing of that bootleg:

Disc 1
1. Holy Wars (gen. Schwartzkopf mix)
2. Almost Honest (supercharger mix)

5. School's out
6. Symphony (demo)

8. Insomnia (mix)
9. Return to Hangar (live)
