Well I never would have believed it but I just downloaded the mp3's for Machine Head's new cd and it seems like they have returned to the "Burn My Eyes" sound for the most part. There are still some elements of their "nu" sound from the last couple of their cd's but overall the new cd is pretty crushing ala the first 2 cd's. The thing that totally surprised the hell out of me is that it appears that they have added some minor Gothenburg elements to their sound! At about 4:40 into the first song "Imperium" they break into a fast thrash part that I swear could have come off of a Dark Tranquility cd, harmony guitars and all! I haven't heard all of the songs in their entirety yet but I hope that they add this sound some more in other songs, it's a nice addition to the more mid-paced sound that they normally go for. It's not too bad of a cd overall. There are definitely some major nu-metal moments on it but there is enough fast parts and crushing moments on it to make it a worthwhile listen. Give it a listen, you might just like it, I was pleaseantly surprised! |

As nu-metal's prominence is clearly on the wane, Robb Flynn hitches a ride on the next bandwagon which crosses his path.
The man is more disgraceful than Fred Durst himself. |
