K.K. Downing Interview Interview Page 2
By Bob Nalbandian & Fredrik Hjelm

BN: I had heard somewhere through the grapevine that there was a whole album of Judas Priest material that was recorded shortly after Turbo and was never released?

KK: Nothing to my knowledge...a whole album? If so, I'm not aware of it. Oh, you must be talking about the session we did with Michael Jackson (laughs.)

FH: Your previous studio album, Jugulator, was produced by both yourself and Glenn Tipton, but this new album, Demolition, was produced solely by Glenn...

KK: Yeah, I got lazy (laughs.) Actually Glenn just got a brand new, well-equipped studio in his house and it just seemed convenient really.

FH: You think he felt the pressure was a lot greater seeing he produced this album himself?

KK: I would have thought so. It definitely showed in his face at the end of the session (laughs.) It's a lot of pressure to take on obviously. I don't know what's gonna happen in the future, we'll just have to wait and see.

FH: There's been plenty of bands throughout the years who've obviously been inspired songwriting-wise by Judas Priest. When writing new songs after so many years, do you think your songwriting is perhaps inspired by any new bands whom may have originally been inspired by you?

KK: Personally, no. I really don't think so. I know Glenn has a young teenager, so he brings hope a lot of the new stuff like System Of A Down and Linkin Park and all that sort of stuff. So, I don't know what happens with Glenn, but I don't have any kids putting the pressure on me (laughs)..."this sounds great dad, why don't you do a song like this?" I'm not saying that's what happens to Glenn. Sometimes things happen consciously or sometimes subconsciously, but to be honest, if I listen to anything new, it would probably be the European metal bands. That's not to say that America doesn't have some good new metal bands, but there's not that many compared to what Europe has to offer. Europe has a lot of great metal bands that keep the tradition alive. Perhaps they were inspired by us or AC/DC. Most of them have really good musicians. Have you heard the new album from Nevermore? Their new album is really good!
