JO: On the new album, Stronger Than Death, you have Mike Piazza doing a growl on the title track. How did that come about?

ZW: Mike was in the studio when we were doing the record. I was singing a low growl, but Mike could do it lower, so I said, "dude, you want to do it?" He was like, "really?!" So, he just sat in the chair and ripped out the vocals.

JO: What is your connection with the WWF? I know you have some friends that are wrestlers.

ZW: Our whole thing with WWF started from the head of security, you'll see him on the side of the ring. It's this guy named Jim Dobson. I was doing a guitar clinic in Nashville and Jim came down and was like, "Yo Zakk, a lot of the guys really like your music." So, it pretty much started from there. Jim is like the sergeant at arms in the society now. He has his colors, so he walks around with them on.

JO: I recently heard about the movie Metal God. I know Mark Whalberg is singing in the band that you're in. What was that whole experience like for you? That must have been kinda weird for you...

ZW: No, this isn't your daddy's Marky Mark. I guess, I brought him over to the dark side and now I've got him listening to Black Label, Pantera and stuff like that. Mark is a straight up, kick-ass guy. It was great doing the movie with him. Everybody was really cool, there weren't any assholes on the set. It was cool having Mark, and we also had Nick (the guitar player in Black Label) in the movie and also our tour manager and one of our techs is in the movie as well. The least I could do was let him hang in the society for a day. So, he did a video with us for "Counterfeit God," and we're editing it today. Actually, Mark is playing bass in the video; it's very cool.

JO: Is there a release date for the movie or is that still pending?

ZW: Probably around spring break (2001). This isn't exactly a Christmas movie.

JO: Do you still see Black Label in 5 years, 10 years? ...What's next for you guys?

ZW: We're just gonna be at a bar, man. That's where Black Label will be (laughs).

JO: Just at a bar?

ZW: Just at a bar, drinking (laughs).

JO: Are there any side projects for you that are in the works? Is there anybody that you wish you could work with?

ZW: I'm doing exactly what I want to do. I'm in my dream band. Ozzy was obviously...I mean, I was a complete Sabbath freak, and still am. I was a huge Ozzy fan, so being in that band was a dream come true. I got a chance to play with the Allman Bros. and Skynyrd, then I played with GnR for a little bit, just jams and stuff. Between Ozzy and Axl, I don't think you're gonna get any better frontmen on the planet, ya know what I mean? The best thing about doing my own thing is that every thing is the way I want it...the artwork, the production of the record, everything. It's like wearing all the different hats, its no big deal to me because I enjoy doing it. Its not as if I'm doing this at gun point, ya know?
