JOE PERRY - Leavin' Steven! Page 4
by Martin Popoff

Night In The Ruts (1979)
"That one, I think, is really overlooked. The band was playing great. Because most of that stuff was done live in the studio. Because we didn't really tour behind it... I left the band before the record came out, so it didn't really get the kind of tour behind it in a year, year and a half of playing it live, that it should have gotten; it kind of fell by the wayside. But just as a rock record, I think that was one of our best."

Done With Mirrors (1985)
"Least favourite? That's easy. I think Done With Mirrors, except for the hardcore fans, was probably... you know, I have a hard time even listening to that record. I know what a struggle it was for us to do that. It was great to be back and playing with the band, but we were still pretty screwed up and running on the vapours of the '70s, and it just wasn't working right. That one more most important change hadn't occurred yet. So it's kind of hard for me to hear that, but it was important for us to do that. I have a hard time having any regrets about anything. But that record is tough to listen to."

Pump (1989)
"I think Pump is probably my favourite record because we were on a roll - with Permanent Vacation, then we got into this. There was a kind of energy around us. It kind of matched up, because here we were, old dogs, going 15, 20 years of being in the business, and I felt we were reaching a creative stride there, after all the trials and tribulations and all the personal bullshit we had been through."
