Founded in London in 1976 under the name Lucifer, ANGEL WITCH — alongside bands like Iron Maiden and Saxon — are among the pioneers of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. The band is known for its melodic, dark sound and lyrics featuring occult themes, which significantly influenced subgenres such as doom metal. The self-titled debut album by the British band—led by songwriter, lead guitarist, and vocalist Kevin Heybourne is considered a classic of the genre; however, Angel Witch's decline began shortly after the record's release: bassist Kevin Riddles and drummer Dave Hogg left the band to join Tytan. Heybourne initially tried to keep Angel Witch going with other musicians but was unable to prevent the band's demise. On May 22, Angel Witch performed at the Rock Hard Festival 2026 at the Gelsenkirchen amphitheater in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, where Rockpalast recorded their concert, including the song "Angel Witch".
