Venon founder, vocalist, bassist, and very longtime HardRadio founder's playlist stalwart since Neat Records, CRONOS (real name: Conrad Thomas Lant) has passed away at 63 years of age. Venom shared the news via social media: "IN MEMORIAM — CONRAD "CRONOS" LANT. It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we share the news that Conrad "Cronos" Lant has passed away. For more than four decades, Conrad's voice, bass and vision were at the heart of VENOM. From the first dark rumblings of Welcome To Hell, through Black Metal, At War With Satan, Possessed and beyond, he created something that changed heavy music forever. VENOM never followed the rules. They forged their own path. And Conrad was there at the centre of it all — uncompromising, fearless and unmistakable. The Legions have always been an important part of VENOM. To everyone who stood with the band through the years, bought the records, came to the shows, wore the shirts, shared the music and kept the flame burning — Cronos was always grateful for your loyalty and support. [] REST IN PEACE, CONRAD. THE LEGEND LIVES ON. VENOM"
Black Sabbath guitarist TONY IOMMI received honors from the Princess Royal at a Windsor Castle investiture ceremony yesterday. Back in June, BBC announced that Iommi was made an MBE (Member Of The Most Excellent Order Of The British Empire) in the King's Birthday Honours. Speaking about the honor, Tony said, "Really great. I mean, it's strange really, because I didn't expect anything like that. It was such a shock, because we were away, and when we got back, there's all these letter there we're going to open.. bills and this and that and the other. And I saw this and I thought it was a speeding fine, to be honest... 'oh no, this is real, what's this.' Opened it up and God, it was a shock. And [Tony's wife] Maria said, 'what's the matter?' I said, 'God, look at this.' So, really good, really good."
