Hey Iron Chef: That Tom Jones album that
came out about five years ago rocks!
Hey Overmuch: Love that Cars debut album!
Hey Acacia70: Yes was my favorite band when
I started playing. I had every record on
vinyl, back in the day. But can you call
call Thin Lizzy 'non-metal'?
Hey 80's Al: Collective Soul is the only 'today' band that even matters! They're so good. How did they get signed? I thought talent was a no-no anymore...
Hey Metalfilm: Madonna may be the only artist in history that keeps getting better as she gets older. I love her last few albums.
Kudos to everyone who picked The Eagles!
Most underrated band in history, best live
show I've ever seen!
I notice nobody picked Elton John. Shame on you.
Everybody likes Tori Amos - maybe I should
give her a closer look?
Anybody ever heard of Dan Reed Network? What
I said about The Eagles goes for them, too!
Thanks everybody for making this 'junior
member' feel welcome.

SR - Re: Tori Amos - Yes definitely take a closer look. I started a thread on this on the hard board last year. This woman's work is HEAVY. Get the first album "Little Earthquakes" and listen closely to the lyrics (the subsequent records, while very good, get increasing obtuse and impenetrable lyrically, though the records taken on the whole are still good). Tori is the first artist I ever heard who ever gave me (a person of the male persuasion) a inkling of what it sincerely felt like to be a woman in a man's violent (physically and emotionally) world.
The guitarist from my old band who loves stuff like NIN and the Jesus Lizard took one listen to "Me and a Gun" and said, "Only a woman could possibly write something that heavy!"

Metalfilm: Sh*t man, you like Aphex Twin? Wow, I thought I was the only one.
Bullgod: Filter, Three Doors Down, and Days of the New would be on my list too...maybe not my list of favorites, though. But who's counting?
A few more non-metal artists that I like...
Pulp
The Eagles
Ben Folds Five
Sarah McLachlan
Girls Against Boys
Beck
Moby
Rolling Stones
David Sylvian
Squeeze
Various and sundry classical, orchestral, and other random electronica und such should be included as well.
And hey, if you want to talk cheesy, I even own a Weird Al Yankovic CD. |
