Nobody's mentioned Iron Maiden's live version of "I've Got the Fire" (with Paul Dianno singing) originally by Ronnie Montrose - this version totally f*cking SHREDS!! They also did a studio version of the same song with Bruce singing, but it doesn't even come close to the live one.

One of my favorite remakes has got to be Amarchy by Megadeth... I know a bunch of other bands have done it to but I think Thiers is the best... Also anything off the Dream Theater "Change Of Season" Disc just Rocks... When these guy redo a song it should be a compliment to the original Artist....

Gamma Ray: Its a Sin
Excel: Message in a Bottle
Scorpions: Can't Explain

There's many more I like, but usually only if the style is changed drastically, as in teh example of the Excel track. I think I may enjoy that tune, because I HATE the original, which was an overplayed POS.

Some cover I do NOT like are:

Krokus: Ballroom Blitz
Motley Crue: Smokin in the Boys Room (bleh)

wherein the original band di a better job of it.

Ethel The Frog - Eleanor Rigby (Beatles)
Overkill - Hole In The Sky (Sabbath)

Id say Motley's version of Anarchy was better than Megadeth's. Never heard the original smokin' so I'll withhold judgement that way.
How bout Metallica's other cover on Kill 'em all: Blitzkrieg. Better than the original.
